MalachiteMining Company of Colorado. Stock issued on July 23, 1878 in Boston, Massachusetts. Incorporated in 1877 in the State of Maine. Raisedembossed company seal left center. Certificate No. 284 was issued toW. J. Sapp for 11 shares of capital stock ($10 per share). Companycapital was $500, 000. Original ink signatures of company presidentElijah E. Lummus and secretary Edward A. Lord. Certificate is about8” x 12”. Vignette with underground miners working in mine shaft, and ...small vignette upper left with an American Indian woman next toan early Colorado State seal – at the top is the ‘Eye of God’, above a symbolic Roman ‘fasces’ (a set of rods bound around anax), above snow-capped mountains, above a pick and sledge (miner’stools), above a tiny banner at the bottom with the Latin motto “NilSine Numine” (“Nothing without the Deity”).

CompanyHistory:TheMalachite Mining Company of Colorado owned and operated lode mines inJefferson County, Colorado – ores produced gold, silver and copper.The Malachite Mines were at an elevation of about 7, 300 feet, northwest of the town of Morrison, Colorado on the southwesternslopes of Lininger Mountain above Bear Creek. The original mineclaims were purchased in 1866 by R. G. Morrison, but the MalachiteMining Company began mining operations in about 1878 (the year ofstock issue). Company offices were in Golden, Colorado andWinterport, Maine. The Malachite Mining Company reportedly producedup to five tons of ore per day – ores were shipped to a smelter inGolden via the nearest tracks of the Colorado Central Railroad.
