Up for sale is the scarce "Ornate Back" variety 1886 $2 Hancock silver certificate. This was a one year issue, with a complete design change in the next series. This one is also the rarer small round seal variety from the first signature combination of Rosecrans-Jordan. These ornate back notes are always in high demand and are quite beautiful.
The note grades VG/Fine in my opinion. The paper still has good body to it, clean edges and corners, and retains decent color on the des...ign, especially the ornate back. It does have a stain and a few pinholes typical of the age and grade but still a solid note overall. The 5th picture is a comparable certified note, that note is not included in this auction but is for reference only in helping you judge grade. Please check the scans and judge grade/condition for yourself. Lists for $625-$650 in Fine in the Bank Note Reporter and Friedberg. Thanks for looking and have a great day!
