After eleven centuries, the "Republic of Venice" ended in 1797 when Napoleon Bonaparte took it, deposed Ludovico Manin, the last "Dodge, " and then gave it to the Austrians.
The coin pictures the "Lion of Saint Mark" on the obverse and an allegorical portrait of "The Republic" on the reverse. I suspect it was purposeful that the allegorical portrait has a strong resemblance to the long dead Maria Theresa of Austria. Her famous portrait Thalers had become a widely accepted trade coin.
Weight: 28.07 Gram, 40 Millimeters or 1.57 Inches, .835 Silver.
