You are bidding on a full-plate ferrotype [aka tintype] of a man who bears a resemblance to Jefferson Davis
It is in a wood and molded plaster frame, 14" tall
There are no writing or identifying marks on the frame, the picture, the back of the picture, the backing board, or anywhere else
The picture has been slightly rose-tinted by hand, there is some crackling in the top half, there is some spotting, too.
I intend t...o ship this in the frame, with the glass covered with blue tape, and securely bubblewrapped overall.
But the plaster is fragile and brittle, so it might end up arriving even more damaged than it already is.
Note: I have shown this to several experts, and although they all agree it looks a bit like Davis, no one would take the leap of faith and say "yes"
so, you are taking a chance: if it is really Davis, it's a helluva bargain
