$10.00 Canal Bank Note (New Orleans) – PMG Choice Uncirculated 64 EPQ
Offered for yourconsideration is a $100.00 obsolete banknote prepared for issuance prior to theCivil War, though it was never actually released. The central vignette featuresa powerful looking bald eagle, its wings raised high in preparation for flight. An American shield rests on its side below the eagle, supported by the bird’sleft foot. Partially obscuring the shield is an olive branch, representing adesire ...for peace, while a bundle of arrows, representing preparedness for war, rests beneath the eagle’s other foot. Between the eagle’s upraised wings isprinted “STATE OF LOUISIANA”, while below is printed “CANAL BANK”in bold letters. The financial obligation states that “On demand, the NewOrleans Canal & Banking Company Will pay TEN DOLLARS to the bearer”, with “NEW ORLEANS” below. Three rectangular boxes appear at the bottom, the one at the left to receive the signature of the “CASHIER”, the oneat the right to be signed by the “PRESIDENT”, and the central one leftopen for the date. Circular medallions dominate the upper left and rightcorners, each featuring the denomination at the center, with the name of thebank, the city, and the denomination repeated 12 times in a scalloped design. Areddish protectorate covers the lower half of the note, with the same colorbeing used for the notes border. This border is composed of 12 small rectangleswith the denomination inside and one with “NATIONAL BANK NOTE COMPANY”(the printer) inside. The back of the note, as with many pieces of the era, wasleft blank (there was nothing that could be added to the back that had notalready been said on the front). An attractive and popular note. This note has beenprofessionally graded and encapsulated by Paper Money Guaranty as “Choice Uncirculated 64”, with thespecial designations “EPQ” and thatthe note is a “Remainder” (un-issued).The “EPQ” designation is defined onthe back of the holder as “ExceptionalPaper Quality”. The edges are somewhat irregular, with the top being tightat the center. This note is very popular with collectors, primarily due to thebright red protectorate. A great addition to any obsolete currency collection.  A $5.95 charge will beadded to the winning bid for postage and insurance. If you have any questionsregarding this item, please ask before bidding. Buy or Bid withConfidence – American Coins & Collectibles President Richie Self has worked6 years as a paper money grader/authenticator.
