The Confederate Navy took over operation of the Columbus Iron Works in the Spring of 1862. This is what they used to pay the workers. To my knowledge, this is the... only government issued scrip from the Confederacy. There is much that is not known of the relationship between the Confederate Navy and the Bank of Columbus with these notes. James Warner was a naval engineer and was assigned as the superintendent of the Iron Works. They produced steam engines and a slew of other items. These are not that well known outside of a small geographic area.
