In 1992, due to a cash crisis, bonds of the State Loan of Azerbaijan Republic were officially used as currency; however, they were not freely accepted in the local bazaars. The acceptance term of these bonds in the branches of the State Savings Bank was until 1 June 2000. Iranian Azerbaijan, former province of northwestern Iran, was proclaimed an autonomous republic in December of 1945 after a Communist-led revolt broke out against the central government.
