The crate was nailed shut when I found it at an estate auction. It was covered with dust and dirt. I removed the nails from the lid to clean and inspect the bottle. The glass is in excellent condition. I washed it with hot soapy water and rinsed it with warm water. The bottle will need a better cleaning and sterilization if you’re going to use it for wine or beer making. It says 5250 12 on the bottom of of the bottle and it looks like it has circular cracks, but after seeing similar ...jugs I believe they are marks from when it was made, it did not leak when I washed it. The wood is weathered and looks like a few pieces of wood were replaced on the bottom at some point. I will include the cork pieces found in the box and original lid nails shown.
