On this day in 1982, VAN HALEN performed the second of two sold out performances at the Capital Center in Landover, Maryland.
The lucky crowd witnessed The Mighty VAN HALEN at the height of it's powers. This particular show is historic, simply because it's the only pro-shot concert to ever surface from the 1982 North American tour.
The only reason this footage exists is because the Capitol Center was one of the only arenas in the country to have video screens. In fact, the Center was the first indoor arena to have them. The four-sided projection video screen was known as the Tele-screen on its center-hung scoreboard. For sports games, it was used as a video replay screen. For concerts, it let the kids in the back get an up-close view of their rock stars.
This feature of the arena is the reason why a lot of pro-shot concert videos exist from the era. The Capital Center would have their camera crew shoot each band that played the venue. Luckily for fans, someone who worked at the venue was wise enough to keep a video recording of what was projected onto the screens, along with soundboard audio.
