Attributed US Navy Civil War campaign medal issued to Acting 3rd Assistant Engineer John S. Roake for service on the USS Mary Sanford from August 1863 to May 1864. He left the Navy in July 1864 due to an accidental injury to his eye. The medal roster that shows the attribution was compiled by the late Col. Al Gleim.The medal is official issue and was manufactured for the government by Bailey, Banks and Biddle of Philadelphia. It is re-ribboned, with a replacement brooch. There is a repair t...o ring on top of planchet. Sold with with two dozen pages of research copied from Roake’s pension file.
