[ PROVENANCE... ]
This came up at auction as part of a private collection of similar pieces, all dating to the 1950s and '60s. The only provenance offered was that they originated at an educational facility, where they were part of the "physics lab." This particular piece has a barcode tag on ...the underside from MATC (Milwaukee Area Technical College). The barcode itself, of course, dates from the 1970s or later, but I believe the unit is vintage 1960s.
[ FEATURES AND DETAILS... ]- I believe this unit is complete -- no missing parts -- and functional. However, I am an antiques dealer (not an engineer), so I'll confess I haven't the knowledge to properly test all of its features. If there is ANYTHING you would like me to check for you, please message me through eBay BEFORE you bid or purchase, and I'll be glad to assist.
- BASIC TEST: I powered the unit up and tested it with some radium-coated clock parts, and it responded very nicely with the expected "clicking" sounds as I ran the G-M tube over the parts. The mechanical counter (the one that looks like an odometer) counts upward nicely, and it clears to zero when you press the toggle switch. The red reset button also changes the number on the counter ... though I'm not sure for what purpose. All four lights (numbered "1" through "4") also flash.
- ABOUT THE G-M TUBE: The tube is stamped "Amphenol, " and it's roughly 7" long ... which is all I can tell you. And it appears to work fine, as stated above -- and also stated on the paper attached to it. Based on that paper, as well as the sticky note on the back of the unit, it's clear that this G-M tube did belong with this unit.
[ CONDITION... ]
- Beautiful vintage condition -- from a non-smoking environment.- The expected few scuffs and scratches -- but no visible signs of abuse, broken parts, moisture damage, or having been dropped.- AS-IS, TESTED ONLY AS STATED ABOVE.The above is my good-faith attempt to disclose all noteworthy issues. Keep in mind that vintage/antique items always show their age. (Don't we all!?) It would be impossible to mention every tiny detail, so please expect that there will be something about this item (or lot) that's not perfect and may need touch-up.
PLEASE SUPERSIZE ALL PHOTOS, AND ASK ALL QUESTIONS BEFORE BIDDING/BUYING. I'LL BE GLAD TO ANSWER.
