EXQUISITE 19thC GERMAN BLACK FOREST FOLK ART WHIPPET DOG HEAD WALKING STICK CANEAMAZNG ESTATE TREASURE AUCTION INCLUDNG FINE ASIAN ARTS Hello, thank you for having a look at our auctions! Up for auction with no reserve is an exquisite 19thC German Black Forest Folk Art Carved Wood Whippet Dog Head Figural Handled Walking Stick or Cane. The Cane is part of a fine collection of Canes we have listed this week, be sure to check all our other auctions and save greatly with combined shipping.
This is one of the finest Black Forest Carved Wood Canes I have ever sold, featuring an amazing detailed Dog Head, which I am told is a Whippet. The Carved details are superb and the use of glass eyes really shows the quality. I also love the little leather collar that the maker used to cover a small hold in the wood, though the collar is rough as seen. The Cane Handle and Shaft or Stick portion look to be one piece of wood and I believe it is Bamboo or River Cane. The Cane overall is in good condition showing some wear and signs of use consistent with age including small losses to the dog's ears but no breaks, cracks or repairs. The Cane is a nice size for use or display measuring 36-1/4 inches long overall or the handle alone measures 1-3/4 inches wide overall. I love this Cane and I am sure the new owner will too !
