A very elegant and exquisite figure of Kwan Yin cast in bronze and lacquered and gilded in Tibet in the 1800s. She may be older, judging by her quality and condition, but I am relatively conservative in dating. She is 9 3/4 inches tall which is rather tall for a seated figure.Although the figure was gilded originally, most of the of gold has been worn away by handling and caressing, revealing the warm red lacquer which was underneath the gold to give it more warmth, a common usage even... in the western world. The combination of the remaining gold and red lacquer and the underlying grey-green tones of the bronze itself combine to create a patina both beautiful and complicated. But it is the face of this Kwan Yin which is her crowning glory. I find her beauty to be most affecting. BUDDHA: Antique Tibetan Kwan Yin, Lacquered & Gilded Bronze, 1800s, 9.75" tall
