This no-reserve auction is for an antique/vintage American table lamp. It's from the same era and decorative "school" as lamps by Pittsburgh, Jefferson, Handel, Moe Bridges, Pairpoint and many others. I don't see a signature and have no idea who made this particular lamp. The heavy glass shade was reverse-painted by hand on the interior, while the exterior has what I believe collectors call an "ice chip" textured surface. Its upper rim is inscribed with the number 63, possibly a manufa...cturer's design number. The lamp has obviously been used for generations but remains in very good condition, as shown. In my photos, the metalwork looks a bit dark and shiny because I had just cleaned it, but the patina is actually old and nice in person. I suspect the circular base and lower standard/shaft are made of bronzed cast iron or something along those lines; it seems to be heavier and more substantial than spelter. As usual, the upper electrical fittings are brass and steel (?), while much of the lamp's heft likely comes from a base plate hidden by the felt. The wiring is "oldish" but must have been redone at some point; it's been working just fine in the house, however. While shade and base fit and look quite happy together, I can't guarantee that they were made and sold together originally, as neither is marked and I'm far from being a lamp/glass expert. We've owned the lamp for many years and were told by the dealer prior to its acquisition that it was old. Please review the photos carefully and use your own judgement when bidding. Feel free to ask questions. Low starting price to encourage fast sale, but I don't end auctions early. Overall height, to top of finial, is about 23 inches. Maximum diameter of shade is about 18 inches. The lamp will be carefully packed and shipped via US Postal Service. If I'm able to get it to you for less than the quoted price, I'll issue a partial refund through PayPal. I don't charge for time or materials.
