I set this to our local barometric pressure of 29.75" when I bought it and today it has accurately tracked the pressure to 30.25" - so it is working.
Cosmetic issues are normal marks in the outer covering of the case, and most of the "Made in Germany" that was marked in ink on the outside of the crystal has worn off.
