The history of S. M. Frank & Co. spans nearly a century and half of pipe making, supporting our claim as the “oldest pipe house in America.” S. M. Frank, as it exists today, is a combination of some of the biggest names in pipe making from the early part of the 20th. century. The pipe names Kaywoodie, Yello-Bole, Reiss-Premier, DeMuth, Medico, Heritage and Frank are familiar to generations of pipe smokers.
In 1933 th...e paper filter was invented and Medico pipes were born. Not much is known about the Frank Gold Dot line of pipes but it is believed that Medico was at the lower end and Frank was created to be a more high end pipe.
This pipe as shown in my pictures is a stunning ring grain black sandblasted apple with a vulcanite bit that can use the 6mm paper filter. Markings are crisp as shown in photo #3. It appears that their was a tiny hairline crack due to the shank being very thin & a sterling silver band was added. Weight is a light .9oz. Length is about 5 1/2". Height is about 1 3/8". Bowl top dia is 1" and the chamber dia is 13/16". Pipe is used but in excellent condition.
