Authentic Federal Carved American Eagle With Banner Hoop In Talons Gold Gilding
Item History & Price
Reference Number: Avaluer:109185 |
This auction is for the pictured period carved American Eagle with hoop in talons. The ea...gle appears to have its original gilding. The construction is pine, very light, and firm A chip on a wing tip. Easily restored if wanted. The swinging hoop is extremely rare to find. The size also very small, the dimensions are aprox. 15" by 7+1/2" by 4+1/4" carved for the purpose of hanging a small banner, flag banner or political drape. Seen in an occasional photograph hanging behind a speaker at the podium. The flat top is sometimes found attributed to the Bellamy school but rarely. Never on his full wing span carvings. The head on this bird was not yet transformed into the full faced Eagle which began to appear in the mid 1800s. Very apparent the head is in keeping with the early chicken shape you would expect in transition around 1820. Before this were full blown chicken like heads. This was purchased from an old Colonial home here in Connecticut. Please ask questions before you bid not after. Thanks for looking at this eagle. Iv spent some time researching and have yet not found another. Truly a rarely found foreword facing hooped American Eagle. Good things sometimes come in small packages. The eagle is well photographed and explained . I do not take returns. Its sold as described and again photographed extensively. Last you are welcome to inspect it. It is for sale locally as well.
