Excellent Heavy Genuine Bakelite Faturan Beads for Restringing Necklace. Largest beads: 2.8cm Smallest beads 1.2cm. Total length 32cm.

Up for sale here is an exceptional quality bakelite bead nec...klace for restringing, exhibiting strong formaldahyde odour when rubbed and guaranteed to be genuine. I am an experienced collector of bakelite (catalin) jewellery and this is demonstrated by my feedbacks, so you can be confident that this is true bakelite and not one of the other early plastics such as galalith.

These beads are loosely threaded onto string and could be easily re-strung. They form part of a small collection of estate items that I am currently listing, which were acquired by a late discerning worldwide traveller and are new onto the UK market.

I have shown the beads in high definition macro images and I hope that these show that the bakelite beads have a strong butterscotch amber colour and very good marbling. I have illuminated a couple of the beads to show this clearly. The beads are vintage, hand carved, and have not come from old stock bakelite blocks that have been recently machined. Each bead is slightly different and the age of the beads is reflected in the patina and some wear that is to be expected from items that have knocked against each other through use.

I have taken one of the photos outside in natural light, to try to show the true colour, and the others are taken in a professional light box, with a macro lens, to show the condition and patina, particularly of the metal beads which could be polished to a high shine by the new owner if it is their preference.

I am an experienced seller and collector of antique and vintage jewellery. As an art history graduate specialising in sentimental antique jewellery with cultural importance, and with goldsmithing training, I am qualified to assess the quality and fineness of precious metal items, but I have not tested the metal beads on this item because I did not want to risk damage to the bakelite beads or the string.

Please see the photos; they form part of the description and show the size in centimetres and the weight in grams.

Please bid with confidence and view my feedback, where you will see that I have received positives for other valuable items of this age and older, and have sent antique jewellery all over the world with no problem.

Items will be securely packed and sent swiftly by a trackable service. In the unlikely event that my description does not meet your expectations, I am happy to accept returns provided that items are returned in the same condition as I sent them and are sent via a trackable service, at the purchaser's expense. Please note that any customs charges levied upon overseas bidders will be the responsibility of the purchaser to pay. No onward shipping companies please, and I am sorry but I am unable to post to PO boxes, as UK post to these cannot be insured.

If you have any queries, please do get in touch. Thanks for looking! On 11-May-19 at 17:15:56 BST, seller added the following information:Dear bidders,

following a couple of questions - the largest bead size is 2.69cm long using a Vernier caliper set but it is hard to measure them exactly because they are hand carved and the shapes are a slightly irregular. The smallest is 1.2cm long. The width on the largest bead size is 2.1cm approx. The three central beads are roughly the same size, they graduate down in size after the 3 largest ones.

Please see the photos which show the beads next to a ruler for a guide, rather than the ones where I am holding the beads because it is hard to get a sense of perspective and I am only 5ft tall so have quite small hands!! I don't want anyone to be disappointed!

Also thank you for asking about buy it now prices, but ebay rules state that the listing should run once it has started.

Kind regardsDeccorama
