This antique Chinese gold couching crane bird first rank civil badge pair tassel purse dates from the end of the Qing Dynasty 1910. The badge is made of a black silk fabric background, with gold metallic thread couching embroidery work, which tiny red stitches hold the couching work together giving it a contrasting copper color appearance. There is a red cap head crane bird ...in the center, with smoke clouds, sun disk on the left for a male badge, waves of water embroidered on the bottom and a decorative meandering border edging. The buzi badge is of the crane bird which is the symbol of the first civil rank badge. It has been beautifully embroidered, sewn together to be made into a purse with green jade glass beaded buttons along the top, gold lame loops for closure, gold silk tassels with silver thread wrapped tops on the sides and is fully lined inside in a white silk fabric. The badge purse measures 7 1/2 by 7 1/2 inches, with 8 inch long tassels. It is in good as-is condition, with some breaks on the gold loop closures along the top, missing the carrying strap handle and has some staining on the inside silk lining (see close-up). This is truly a wonderful one of a kind piece of antique Chinese textile art!
