Up for bids is a beautiful striated celluloid “SWAN” lever filler by Mabie Todd Pen Co, with an original, great condition Mabie Todd flexible nib. The nib reads: “SWAN” 14 CT MABIE TODD & CO NEW YORK MADE IN USA. The nib weighs 0.27g, and is 23.43mm long, with a line variation of around extra-fine 0.3mm to a broad 1.7mm. It is a nice soft nib. I have successfully got this pen to write with consistent and reliable flow. The nib is very responsive, and the pen itself is stunning,... bursting with color and feels like velvety smooth glass. It’s a smooth, fine writer. The barrel reads: “SWAN” SELF-FILLING PEN MABIE TODD & CO NEW YORK, and there’s a little picture of a swan pressed in the barrel. The imprint on the barrel is not very clear, as I had to use a magnifying glass to read it. There is no imprint on the lever or clip, but there’s a faint little picture of a swan on the cap jewel, please see pictures. The total weight of this pen is 13.48g. It measures 131mm capped, 118mm uncapped, and 153mm posted. The cap posts nicely and screws onto the barrel securely. The lever filler works perfectly, and pushes flush into the barrel. The gold cap band is in excellent condition but with a bit of brassing. There are no chips, cracks or dents on this pen. As you can see from the pictures this is a wonderfully clean pen. It’s a very fun pen and will make a great addition to your collection!The pen has been fitted with a new J bar and a BIG number 21 sac, for lots of flexy writing! The nib, feed and section have all been cleaned and are ready to write with your favorite ink! Pen comes with a soft velvet pouch, so you can keep it protected when bringing it with you to show off to your friends! Please look at the pictures closely as they are part of the description.( I must note: when you handle an old fountain pen, you cannot put it in your pants pocket and walk around without it leakIng. If you want to bring a fountain pen with you, the writing end must be facing the sky. These pens do have a sack of ink inside of them, and if you walk around with the pen in your pocket with the tip down it’s going to leak ink.Also of note: when you are filling a fountain pen if you immerse the sectIon past where the section and the barrel meet, ink can get into the gap between the barrel and the section and keep getting your fingers dirty even after you’ve cleaned your pen.
