Justunder a foot high, this positively darling alabaster table (oh, let's just getsexy and say “boudoir”) lamp totally floats my boat. Shopping in France, onestumbles upon the occasional gem "in the rough." The French don'thave American-type qualms/obsessions about condition... if an antique has abump or a crack -- well, is the thing's spirit intact? Is its essential beautypresent? I've seen a cracked, chipped and dented object trade hands three times in ten minutes, the price at l...east doubling each time, while I sat on thesidelines gaping, having assumed the item was too damaged to sell to anyone (inthe USA)! It's in this spirit that I offer this lamp with its cracked, burned, chipped and otherwise tortured shade. The irreverent previous custodian usedtoo hot a bulb; alabaster is not amused by excessive heat. When the lamp islit, especially at night, the shade glows like a distant planet (Mars, inparticular), with the deepest orange-reds, browns, and amber colors. Keep it ina spot away from little fingers, and you'll delight in its beauty for decadesto come. Rewired for use with American bulbs, of course.Measurements: about 4.75 x4.75 x 12 inches
