Vtg 16mm Master Reel By Bettie Page Photo Irving Klaw PinUp Girl Movie Film Loop
Item History & Price
Irving Klaw has been given much credit for his photos of Bettie Page, but he also shot Bettie and many other girls on movie film! After the surprise success of Klaw's 1953 B-movie "Striporama" which featured Bettie Page and other famous striptease performers, Klaw directed several more of his own burlesque feat...ures. During this period Klaw produced many silent 8mm and 16mm black-and-white films. In addition to striptease acts the films featured an assortment of fetishistic subjects based on special requests from his clientele. This particular film you are bidding on here features two models, Chris Pennease and Honey Baer, in a negligee-clad cat fight, as seen in the photos.
The reel measures 4.5" across and is the Master Reel from which all other duplicates were produced, as evidenced by the included paperwork from Guernseys-Bettie Page and Movie Star News Auction, where this film was first purchased from the Klaw estate Saturday, April 6, 2013, which can be read about here: https://www.liveauctioneers.com/catalog/38171_guernseys-bettie-page-and-movie-star-new-day1/?page=1
This film was Lot 419 and in their own description, the auction was described as being "Two Sessions 12 Noon and 6PM. Bettie Page and The Irving Klaw Archives at 12 Noon ( Lot # 1 through 599) and Move Star News Icons and Autographs of Icons at 6PM. (Lot 600 through 999) Movie Star News was founded in 1938 by Irving Klaw after his book store in lower Manhattan failed to thrive. Klaw noticed early in his first endeavor that customers were tearing the pictures of their favorite movie stars out of the magazines in the store. He decided to change his direction. The idea of Movie Star News was born. Klaw contacted the movie studios , many of which were then located in New York City, about purchasing negatives. Over the next 50 years, Movie Star News purchased millions of images from them.
"This first live auction offers a brief introduction into the archives of Movie Star News and into the Irving Klaw Archives. The collection is a virtual history of the mysterious Bettie Page and encompasses early 1950's pin-up photography as a whole. Rare one of a kind images, some never before seen, together with their negatives and other movie memorabilia will be on the auction block. The negatives represented in this auction are all from the Movie Star News Archives. They were obtained, for the most part, directly from the studios. Many are hand numbered in India ink. The negatives and the entire archives were preserved carefully and diligently over the last 75 years and are in very fine to excellent condition."
