This sale features a 1970 Sports Illustrated magazine with distance runner Steve Prefontaine on the cover.The magazine shown in the pictures is the actual one you will receive.This issue - June 15, 1970 - is a classic. It is the only Sports Illustrated ever published with “Pre” on the cover, and his tragic, untimely death has contributed to his legacy and his admiration by distance runners in the decades since.The magazine is in acceptable condition for its age, although it has obv...iously been handled and read (see pictures for details, which I am also describing in this paragraph). There appear to be no missing interior pages, and the staples are tight at the center of the magazine. The back cover is in good overall condition, but there is a 3/4-inch x 2 1/2-inch area of purple staining which extends - gradually less noticeably - 10 pages in from the back cover. The front cover shows 3 diagonal creases over the bottom right corner: all are less than 4 inches long. The mailing label has been removed, with damage both in paper torn from the cover and glue residue remaining. The top right corner has more numerous creases, but they are shorter in length and not as evident. The spine is in decent condition, with rounding and wear on top and bottom, and a 1/2-inch tear at the top. The magazine subscription card is attached. The 2 staples are in very good condition with no rust and minimal tearing.
