This quilt is:From around 1850s-1860s, based on textiles & patternHuge: 96 x 96"Entirely hand stitched.Has cotton battingI *think* this is a Courthouse Square pattern. It looks like an autograph or album style quilt, but has no evidence of signatures at block centers. In poor condition. Sold As IS. Ideal for study piece or repurposing. It is not in useable condition.Binding is detache...d and missing in sections. Both of the madder print fabrics have deteriorated and are extremely fragile, with lots of holes due to iron mordant dye process, splits and threadbare spots. Fabric has lots of spots, stains, Backing is made of sections of 24" wide lozenge print madder fabric.Back of quilt has faded fold lines, holes, stains, threadbare spots, center of backing has substantial fiber lossThe thing I love about this quilt is the green fabric. The lovely green overdyed print that frames the blocks appears page 59 of Eileen Jahnke Trestain's Dating Fabrics: A Color Guide 1800-1960 where it is dated as 1830-1860.ALSO: the green fabric is in pretty good condition. There are some stains, spots, but unlike the orange fabric, the green is solid and not deteriorated. It could be salvaged for another project.
