CONDITION:
Excellent Original Condition - No Repairs, No Restorations, No Chips, No Breaks, No Hairlines, just some general light scuffs and a couple of scratches, as you would expect from a piece of this period. There is crazing to the top surface of the glaze, some of which has dirt in it. This might appear to the untrained eye as hairlines. I can assure you there are no hairlines and this stained crazing can easily be removed if desired (however I personally would not recommend doing so). Originally this fine jarlet's celadon glaze would have been glossy, however with well over 600 years of age the majority of the body is now has a satin finish with only the surface under the top rim and inside the handles retaining its original glossy finish.
Please note this genuine antique celadon Chinese jarlet was made during the 13th or 14th Century and is NOT a modern copy. It is rare these days to find a plain design jarlet or this age and quality in such good original condition, to find one with a 5 claw dragon is up there with hen's teeth! - This piece should truly be in a top specialist Asian museum. The interior of this jarlet is entirely covered with the same thick celadon glaze that can be seen in my photos. I should have said above that the interior glaze also retains its original gloss surface, unlike the exterior that now has a satin finish (due to ageing). The only area of this jarlet that is not covered in celadon glaze is the base. The base has a thin layer of matt brown glaze dressing to is... The base is slightly dirty, but the brown colour is not entirely dirt, but the dressed foot. The ceramic body of this jarlet is a high quality refined white porcelain which can just be seen on the edge of the foot rim.
