CONDITION: Very Fine Stampless Folded Letter (SFL) with a red New London, Conn. AUG 18 red cds & red 5 rate to a Mr. Gildersleeve, Ship Builder in Portland, Conn. Contents is a letter from a W. N. Gordon of Sag Harbor (Long Island), New York dated Aug 16, 1848 that reads as follows: "Respected Friend, Sir I am in New London today & shall return home & will be in your place next week & should like to build the boats & will do them to your liking & save you 2...5 per cent from New York prices for the same kinds of boats." Opened neatly at wax seal.
