USS BENNINGTON CVS-20 Naval cover with pictorial motorcycle postmark fromNitro, WV dated May 23, 2018. Printed color photo of ship on cachet #8500with an underway view of the carrier by Alvin Eckert USCS #9964. Coverfranked with a 50 cent MOH stamp and a 15 cent Vietnam Campaign Ribbon stamp.USS Bennington: This large fighting vessel was commissioned in 1944 andearned three WW II battle stars... in the Pacific Theater including Okinawa.She was modernized to handle jet aircraft in the 1950s and eventually becamean anti-submarine carrier (CVS-20). She had a tragic hydraulic catapult explosion in 1954 that killed 103 crewmen and injured 201.
