Fremont Expedition in mapping the western frontier in the 1840s. He fought in the Mexican-American War in California and led Union troops in New Mexico during the Civil War. His home was in Taos, NM.The SS Kit Carson was a 441 foot WW II Liberty Ship named in his honor, and built in 1942 in Los Angeles.
