1862 Letter from CW Soldier to Parents - "captured two hundred rebel cavalry"
The letter is dated April 25 (1862) and was sent by William H. Davis to his parents. The letter is faded and some of the writing is faint and... difficult to make out. The majority has been transcribed, which will be shipped with the original letter.
Davis writes home about the war and some of the engagements that have occurred recently. He writes, "It is believed by men that were on the battlefield that the rebels had twice as many men killed as we did but we had more wounded on account of the rebels using so much buck shot". He also writes, "Our Cavalry captured two hundred rebel cavalry I did not see them I have but a poor chance to see what is going on I can't get outside the guard lines".
Measures approx. 5" x 8 1/8"; 10" x 8 1/8" when opened.
