This twelve blade, blood letting scarifiactor is in "as found" condition.The therapies of bloodletting were still being used until the end of the 19th century, the scarificator, made its first slashes in the early 1700s. multiple blades shot out at the flick of the release lever, creating an instantaneous series of parallel cuts. Until the early 1800s these blades were pointed. thereafter, the multiple blades were larger and curved to give a cleaner series of cuts.There are no cracks ...or chips to the solid brass body that I can find however, there are some surface blemishes and marks.The scarificator appears to work, the blades move smoothly out of the body when the steel lever is used, one blade is a little lower than the others.The scarificator measures 3.5 cm (1 1/2 inches) high not including the handle, the base is 5.5 cm (2 1/4 inches) by 4.5 cm (1 3/4 inches) across.
