Item History & Price
Reference Number: Avaluer:1146905 | Color: Blue |
Original/Reproduction: Vintage Reproduction | Style: Ironstone Staffordshire |
Object Type: Cheese or Butter Dish |
The covered butter dish is in the Flow Blue style with a overall pattern of cobalt blue cabbage roses. The bottom is marked Ironstone Staffordshire England and the dish is not an antique but a style authentic reproduction from the 1960's.
The benefit of this being a vintage repro is that it is usable, unlike the antique ones which are too fragile and have a lot of grease staining. Here, while yo...u have the Flow Blue look, the ceramic is fully glazed, still white and clean with no chips or cracks. There is some minimal crazing (this is after all about 50 years old) but not the heavy stained web you see on the older pieces. You can definitely use this to store butter or cheese as there are vent holes at the top to prevent moisture.
The covered dish measures 6.5" X 9" and stands about 6.5" in height. On the rim of the plate there is a small line of what I think is a glaze slip. Have pointed it out with an arrow.
