Carved cherry amber red Phenolic resin Cicada.
Recent estate fine here in Omaha. We are uncertain of the exact substance this is made from
but we do believe it to be older, ca. first half of the 20th century.
Looks like it was molded and then hand carved/polished for a detailed finish.
If you look at its lower body area where the legs are you can see a whitish substance.
This ...appears to be a plaster or wax and I think it was probably part of the mold.
It will come off fairly easy but we left as found.
The left wing has a chip at the end but we still have the piece.
There is also a crack in the same area but it appears structurally sound.
