Original Description:
Rare historical 12-inch 78 rpm shellac record: WILLIAM JENNINGS BRYAN - The Cross of Gold Speech (part 1/part 2) - Gennett 40000 (red and gold "Makers of History" label). Bryan, a former United States Representative from Nebraska, gave this address at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago on July 9, 1896, in which he supported bimetallism or "free silver", which he believed would bring the nation prosperity. I don't know when this was released; I doubt it is from 1896...maybe t...he 1910's. I can't find another one of these online, either available for sale or listed in past auction results; very rare.

Condition is EX+ (glossy and stunning with a few very soft scuffs; one sticker to one of the otherwise-clean labels).

MORE TO COME - I've listed and will be listing many other rare 10" and 12" shellac records over the next month or two, mainly historical events, sports, personalities, politicians, speeches, military, WWI, WWII, presidential & campaign, kings & queens, etc.
A NOTE ON SHIPPING SHELLAC RECORDS: I use the floating method, with the record sandwiched between strong pieces of cardboard with corrugate in opposite directions, then placed inside a larger sturdy box with packing material all around inside to prevent any movement (either peanuts, large-bubble wrap, or crumpled paper). Sometimes if I have old 10" LP jackets I don't need, I will put your record in it before sandwiching; otherwise will be in a paper sleeve. I will also always insure these with the USPS. Due to the extra time, materials, insurance, and overall high level of stress associated with shipping these safely (YOU know!), I am asking $6.00 for Media Mail shipping ($4 is actual shipping cost). I think it is reasonable, and I get the feeling that most collectors who buy these online are happy to pay a little extra for the added assurance.

(Vintage & Antique Records, Single, 78 rpm, Shellac, Non-music, Spoken Word, Speech, Broadcasting, History, Politics, Political, Government, Law, Economics, 1900's, Memorabilia, Collectible)
