Vintage United Motors AVR Electro Check Voltmeter Ampheres meter. Metal, Bakelite, glass, and rubber construction with an awesome Steampunk, Art Deco industrial design. Has an attached metal handle and rubber pads on the bottom so could probably be hung on the wall or used on a flat surface. Has four rubber cables coming out of the body with clamps at the end - two are red and two are black.
Back has a metal stamp with "United Motors Mode...l Number 100; Serial Number 1184". Both meters manufactured by Weston Electrical Instrument Corporation of Newark, New Jersey. The Volt Meter is labeled "Model 301, No 295". The Amperes Meter is also labeled "Model 301" but the No is blank. The clamp ends of the cables are stamped with "No 27".
United Motors Corporation formed in 1916 and was taken over by GM in 1918, at which time it became United Motors Service. It became United Delco around 1960.
Condition: This item is untested. I gently cleaned off a lot of grease and grime but it could still stand a more detailed cleaning. No chips or cracks. The chrome colored metal on the front appears to be dirty and worn. Minor paint loss on the red metal body. The rubber cables are surprisingly supple although both black ends by the clamps have some wear/damage - see last photo. One of the rubber feet is missing. This comes from the estate of a 98 year old auto mechanic. Please review photos and feel free to ask questions.
