Antique Rare Civil War Horse Cavalry Saddle Wooden Trunk / Valise acquired in very good condition from Southern Estate in South Carolina years ago - Specimen may have came from unknown Southern Museum but no provenance accompanied the item to support that - The wooden Valise is in very good original condition - Item is 19th Century hand made & crafted. The original leather strap that once secured it to the saddle has long ago eroded away - a minute portion still remains intact - Th...e old metal bands that still keep the unit intact have also loosened a bit as the wood has dried out over the years - The lock that was on the unit when acquired still unlocks as it did many a year ago - Hand Crafted Wooden Valises are extremely rare and were also used to transport documents in combination with gear & personal effects - This specimen has for most part withheld the deterioration of time - Being offered for sale in same condition as acquired - and has been stored in climate controlled storage since acquisition - Item is of museum quality, and would be a great addition for the most serious Civil War Collection as are some of my other listings - Anyone is welcome to come inspect this item in person while listing is active - These 19th century Civil War wooden Valises are rare to be found, and extremely rare to come across one in this condition Additional Provenance information: Item was part of the rear portion of the Terry M. Ferrell Antique Store, on U.S. 25 in Edgefield, SC. The rear portion of the store was his Private Museum, which had contained a vast amount of original extremely rare old antiques. This item was one of them, and Mr. Ferrell agreed to sell this item when he was 93YOA, as he decided to move remaining items to his home. Terry M. Ferrell was also known as "Preacher Ferrell". Mr. Ferrell passed away on 1/29/2018 at the age of 96. The remaining items in his private museum, which consisted of mostly civil war items, Edgefield Pottery Pieces, and some by Dave a Slave, were all sold at auction. USPS Shipping $18.50 with Purchase
