If there is any question, ...please don't hesitate to email us and ask!------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Without a doubt, this very nicely preserved and heavy-duty, carbon steel meat cleaver is an excellent opportunity to pick up one of the finest chunks of steel ever forged by any German maker and one of the larger cleavers made by F. Dick that was meant to be used with only one hand. It's been used and sharpened extensively--and PROPERLY--so part of its makers markings are no longer evident but there's no doubt who made this fine piece. It remains rock solid and has been reduced by $50 in price because of it, resulting in a very nice bargain in the process. Most makers of this period (early-mid 20th Century) made nondescript pieces with the usual profile but F. Dick practically turned the humble cleaver into the work of cutler's art you see here. It's a rare rosewood-handled piece by this maker, crafted with a pleasingly curved line and a fully hand-forged carbon steel blade, made in Esslingen, Germany for use by professional chefs and the meat-cutting trade. It's an older one, too, as evidenced by its full tang. Like all carbon steel knives, it must be kept dry, even during use, but this minor inconvenience is more than offset by the superb edge maintenance and performance offered by carbon steel, as any experienced chef or butcher over the age of 50 can confirm. Best of all, perhaps, this exceptional knife was recently given an EXTREMELY sharp professional edge and must be treated with extreme care. Handles are made of solid, premium grade rosewood--a substantial upgrade unto itself from the usual beechwood, and are riveted in brass hatched along the edges for a better grip. Blade is the real star here, stamped, "No. 84" on one side with , "11 x 61, " on the reverse. It measures 15.75" long with a blade that's 9" by 4, " slightly humped at the tip to give greater OOMPH! on every lethal blow. This cleaver has some true substance to it (38.7 ounces) and will make quick work of any game, livestock or other meats that it may encounter. Whether you're someone who butchers their own livestock or game, a chef in need of some heft in his/her arsenal, or simply a collector looking for one of the finest cleavers ever produced, this is an excellent find, offered here in heirloom condition.
