A fabulous vintage early 1940s hat, with pretty deep purple and pale purple lilacs and clouds of real silk French veiling, from famous milliner Sally Victor. This is one of her early hats and is so so pretty! Made of a fine straw (?) braid that is very supple and has a nice sheen. Tthe entire crown is wrapped in layer upon layer of fine silk millinery veiling in a pale lavender color. In back is a bow of veiling and a... long long long trailer of veiling to arrange as you wish. There is also some sweet silk veiling in white with tiny silk chenille black puffs. The bouquet of lilacs is large, with two green leaves and green linen stems. Looks best tilted forward, but can be worn any way you wish. this is Sally's early 1930s and 40s label, silk, reads "Sally Victor 16 East 53rd St." This is from her custom New York salon. Sally Victor was one of the top 4 milliners in America, a real rival of Lilly Dache' and friend of the team of John-Frederics. Really a darling hat! Styled to fit most heads.
