Victor Vasarely was a French Hungarian artist who is widely considered to be the founder and innovator of the optical illusion art, known as "op art" movement. Op art is known for creative movement, patterns or movement... in a two dimensional piece. Vasarely focused primarily on geometric abstract art utilizing a variety of colors, forms and shapes. He experimented with cubism, expressionism, surrealism, futurism and symbolism prior to his focus on geometric abstract optical illusion art, known as "Op Art". The works of Victor Vasarely can be found at the the Vasarely Museums in Hungary and France. Victor Vasarely died in 1997 in Paris. During his lifetime he was awarded the Guggenheim Prize in 1964, and the Art Critics Prize in Brussels (from previous listing).
