I have two early Castellos left in my personal collection, this is one of them. These vintage, vulcanite-stemmed masterpieces are for the serious Castello collector. The features on this example include a Vulcanite mouthpiece, ivory bar, lack of “Italy” (they only had a “Made In Cantu” stamp on the early pipes), and the REG No. stampings. Only the earliest Castello pipes have these features. Note the four-digit shape stamp. Only the very early pipes had this stamping.
This ...is by far the craggiest, most knarly Castello Sea Rock carving that I’ve seen in 29 years of collecting. Crisp and clean rim, thick and centered walls, and deeply struck nomenclature. This 1940s vintage pipe has it all.
5 1/2” x 1 7/8”, a Dunhill group 4 in size.
I will also be listing several Dunhill, Barling, and Castello pipes from my personal collection. Along with these items will be pipe bags, pouches, tampers, etc. I’m again thinning out what little remains of my collection.
