Original Description:
Early Working Grether Battle ship gray lantern I believe this is military from others I have seen on E-BAY but please view pics and id numbers to form your own conclusion. The lantern is in  good condition, and I was able to see it light up with the aid of a 9 volt battery and a couple of wires touching the electrical port on bottom that is why it is pictured upside down in pic. I assume that the lantern is a 6 volt because it is from the 40's. The lantern has identification numbe...rs and letters on top , side, bottom and back, please see pics and use zoom provided. Identification Markings are as follows: TOP: "9-S-5311L TYPF  J-I-S"  BOTTOM: "GRETHER MFG.CO. DAYTON OHIO" SIDE: "9-S-5293-L TYPE JR-I-S"BACK: "5293-L-6". There is a toggle switch on front of lantern and "on" has been penciled on it and that is the right direction for toggle On. The lantern has a few newer looking wires as well as a cork gasket, but it is as found by me .The Grether company dates back to the early 1900's when they made Fire fighter equipment and lanterns. The lantern weighs 4 pounds 3.5 oz. Thanks and Happy Bidding !!!
