Intended as a wall hanging, this beautiful bronzemask comes from the Bamoun/Bamun people and the grasslands of Cameroon. Itmeasures about 9” in length and about 6” across, from ear- to-ear. It appearsto be the face of a royal woman, probably a queen, possibly the mother or wifeof King Njoya, who was born in 1933 and became king at age fifteen. Atop herhead, this royal woman displays an elaborate three-part hairdo. Excellentcondition, with little pitting. Nice patina. This vint...age bronze mask comes from the privatecollection of an internationally recognized constitutional law attorney fromSouth Africa, who assisted Nelson Mandela with development of laws fordemocratic elections in South Africa. The attorney purchased this bronze mask, identified as an older, traditional piece, from a Cameroonian collector in the1990s, and later he brought it, as part of his African art collection, to theUnited States.
