1982 Harley - Davidson FXR

I purchased it from the original owner whose brother gifted it to him after photographing it for the January issue of the 1982 Cycle magazine. I purchased it from him for $10, 000 5 years ago it had 187 miles on her and sat in his air conditioned garage since 1982 and he changed the oil once a year and would ride it up and down his street in the summer time. It’s still on the original tires from 1981. I purchased it in Charleston, WV in 2013 and put 3200 miles on her riding it from t...here to Sturgis, SD and from there down to Ft. Lauderdale, FL. She’s never leaked a drop of oil and the only part I replaced was the key cylinder, swapped exhaust and carb.
This is the first year of production and they made a very limited bunch in this paint tone. First year of a square back bone, designed by Eric Buell and it almost bankrupted Harley producing it. This was the first year Willie G. Davidson and 13 investors sunk all of their money into buying back the company from AMF with the help of Ronald Reagan. First year of the 5 speed shovel head and 1983 was the last year. 1984 FXR was the Evolution motor... I’ve owned 3 and it doesn’t compare to the shovel.
It’s a very rare bike, it has the original seat and I also have a very rare option that’s not on the bike because I was going to have it re-chromed.... 1986 first year of Screamin Eagle production 35mm fork brace specifically for the 82-83 FXR... they sell on eBay between $350-500. Everything on the bike is original except the exhaust, upgraded S&S carb and ignition cylinder ... FXR or Die. I removed the brass front fender 1982 commemorative eagle because it was coming loose but I have it.
I’m only selling because I recently dislocated and shattered my right ankle and I have bills to pay, I never planned on selling it. Most FXRs from 82-83 have been molested and chopped... this is a rare bird. It’s never been dropped, this is the only one for sale in the world in the rare option color combination.
