WWI Swiss-Component Military Trench Watch - This beautiful WWI Swiss Component Military Watch is typical of those manufactured in the UK and U.S. using Swiss movements, dials, etc. This watch is in non-running condition - very suitable for display or restoration. The brilliant, white, Swiss marked, porcelain dial and gold-leaf arabic hour numerals are in absolute pristine condition, as are the solid, undinged gun-metal finished case, and flat onion-dome type crown. The skeletonized, �...�Mercedes” hour/minute hands are in perfect condition retaining their luminous (faded now) filling. The crystal is clear, uncracked, solidly seated in the bezel, and in perfect condition. The watch case has no lift flange to inspect the movement. There Is a small hardly visible scratch next to the crown where an attempt was made to do this, successful or not. However due to its beautiful condition I have not tried to open the case. This watch is one of the many thousands made w/o a second hand to reduce production costs. In fact during this time, many pocket and wrist watches were made w/o second hands, reducing the number of jewels needed and parts/assembly costs. These hour/minute only watches were frequently the type privately purchased by enlisted soldiers who were not issued watches. Without a second hand this watch could contain from 8-15 jewels. From the case, dial, hands, crown quality - the movement is likely at the higher end. Offered inexpensively, due to non-running condition and lack of movement info.
