Imported from Republic of Georgia in 2018, it previously underwent restoration including new paint and upholstery. Rarely found in good condition even in Ex soviet Union Countries, only a handful have made their way to the US – notably a white 1966 model belonging to Jay Leno. This car is offered with a clean Pennsylvania title.The “third-series” 21 carried on a design established in the... mid-1950s, introducing the “baleen” pattern grille that remains a GAZ trademark today. Intended as a “people’s car, ” the Volga was nevertheless out of reach for most residents of the Soviet republic. The grey respray has good shine and looks to be holding up well over straight body panels.Brightwork appears complete for a car ordered without optional trim, looking presentable with some dings and discoloration as seen in the gallery below.Inside, a leatherette dash houses a large clock and transparent speedometer behind the cool stock steering wheel.Also present is the original single-speaker, three-band radio linked to a roof-mounted antenna whose position is adjustable from inside the car.Front and rear bench seats fold flat, and were reupholstered some time ago in a cloth-and-snakeskin motif with a clean matching headliner. Interior trim and sill plates show their age with some wear and pitting, but appear complete.Mechanicals were kept simple for easy repair, here including an original 2445cc inline four and three-speed, column-shifted manual transmission. The oil-bath air cleaner was a holdover from the mid-’50s origins, while manually-operated radiator blinds were included to aid warmup on icy mornings. No mechanical issues are present according to the seller.Built to withstand Soviet-era roads, the rugged chassis and basic suspension have some corrosion but look largely solid. The car was last serviced before departing Georgia, and runs and drives well.The car has kept the car garaged and only driven it about 500 miles since importing it.
