Sonning Vintage Watches Just Beautiful 1980 Gold Capped Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date Gents Vintage WatchThe OverviewThis is a beautiful example of the gold capped Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date from 1980. Rolex made very few gold capped watches and the process involves putting a slim layer of solid gold over the top section of the case. This is thousands of times thicker than gold plating so is very hard wearing. The case is in overall excellent condition with ...only minor signs of wear to the sides and a minor ding on the stainless steel caseback. The original and untouched Rolex signed champagne dial is again in excellent condition with only minor wear just above the ’11’ baton and below the ‘7’ baton – this is hard to see without magnification. The applied gold hour batons and gold hands flow into the dial and gold capped bezel. The very high grade Rolex signed automatic movement is again in excellent condition and has just been fully serviced by our professional watchmaker. To complete this piece we’ve added a new, super high quality, dark brown Hirsch ‘London’ alligator strap with gold plated Hirsch buckle.My asking price is below the value for a watch of this condition and rarity, particularly with the continual rise in value of vintage watches of this high quality. In view of the high grade Swiss movement, I will include a 12 month written guarantee on the movement.The CaseThe case is in overall excellent condition with only minor signs of wear to the sides and a minor ding on the stainless steel caseback. The case measures 34mm across, excluding the Rolex signed gold crown and 41mm long including the lugs. The inside case is signed ‘Montres Rolex SA Geneva Switzerland’, ‘Patented’, ‘Swiss Made Stainless Steel’ and the case number is ‘1550’.
