1962 BEECH P-35 BONANZA, LOW 3070 TT, IO-470N 260 H.P. 1690 SMOH, ACCIDENTAL GEAR RETRACTION, CHEAP!!THE P-35 IS REGARDED WITHIN THE BEECH COMMUNITY AS THE MOST BALANCED OF THE BONANZA MODELS.THE 260 H.P. IO-470N IS LIGHTER THAN THE LATER ENGINES, YET PRODUCES 91% OF THE SAME POWER, ON A LOWER FUEL BURN.SAME 74 GALLONS OF GAS, IN ONLY 2 TANKS, JUST LIKE THE LATER MODEL AIRPLANES, SO MORE ENDURANCE IS POSSIBLE !THE “P” IS THE FIRST BONANZA TO ELIMINATE THE DANGEROUS AND IRRATATING �...��PIANO KEY” SWITCHES!THE MODERN CIRCUIT BREAKERS AND TOGGLE SWITCHES, COMBINED WITH THE CENTER STACK FOR AVIONICS AND NEW STRIP GUAGES FOR TEMPS AND FUEL MAKE THE “P” DASH A PLEASURE.THE FIRST USE OF THE RAM’S HORN CONTROL YOKE IN A BONANZATHIS AIRPLANE HAS A VERY LOW TOTAL TIME OF 3, 070!IT HAS TINTED GLASS ALL AROUND, AND A NEW SPEED SLOPE 1 PIECEWINDSHIELD AND NEW ENGINE CONTROL CABLES (THROTTLE, MIXTURE, PROP) AT THE LAST ANNUAL 3/18/2019!NOT A SITTER, THIS AIRPLANE HAS HAD VERY RECENT MAINTENANCE!!BUT EVEN WITH THE NEW STYLE INSTRUMENT LAYOUT, ACCIDENTS CAN HAPPEN.AFTER A NORMAL LANDING, THE LANDING GEAR ON THIS AIRPLANE STARTED TO RETRACT.  ABOUT THE ONLY THING THAT CAN CAUSE THIS TYPE OF RETRACTION IS ACCIDENTLY FLIPPING THE GEAR SWITCH UP INSTEAD OF THE FLAPS.AS THE NOSEGEAR MOVES FIRST, THE AIRPLANE SCRAPED THE NOSE DOORS, FLATTENED THE EXHAUST PIPES AND SCRAPED THE FIRST BELLY SKIN.THE LEFT EDGE OF THE NOSEGEAR WELL IS SCRAPED, BUT THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE WELL IS NOT!  THE NEXT ITEM TO MOVE DURING A RETRACTION ARE THE INBOARD GEAR DOORS, AND BOTH OF THESE ARE SCRAPED ON THE LOWER SKIN BUT NOT PULLED OFF OR MANGLED, SO THE INBOARD WING RIB, WHERE THEY ATTACH, SHOWS NO DAMAGE.  IN FACT I INCLUDED A PHOTO OF THE MAIN GEAR WELL BECAUSE I NOTICED HOW CLEAN IT WAS!  This has been a desert based airplane for decades, no corrosion issues!YOU WOULD EXPECT THE BELLY SKINS TO BE SCRAPED UP FROM FRONT TO BACK, BUT THIS AIRPLANE WAS SLOW BEFORE THE SWITCH WAS ACCIDENTLY THROWN, SO THE MAIN GEAR DIDN’T HAVE TIME TO RETRACT FULLY BEFORE THE AIRPLANE CAME TO A STOP!BOTH FLAPS SUPPORTED THE AIRFRAME, SO THEY ARE SCRAPED AND BENT AT THE INBOARD EDGE, BUT THERE IS NO DAMAGE TO THE WINGS AT THE FLAP ATTACH POINTS.IN FACT, THERE IS NO DAMAGE TO EITHER WING AT ALL!!NO AILERON DAMAGENO TIP DAMAGE (NOTE THE HORTON STYLE METAL TIPS, THEY ADD SPEED IN CRUISE AND CONTROL AT LOW SPEED)THE SURPRISING THING IS THAT THERE IS NO BELLY DAMAGE EXCEPT THAT ONE FAR FORWARD SKIN I MENTIONED!NO SCRAPING TO THE MID-BELLY OR AFT BELLY SKINS!!THE FLAPS AND THE PARTIALLY EXTENDED GEAR HELPED TO HOLD THE AIRPLANE UP, SO THE LABOR OF REPLACING THE BELLY SKINS WAS ELIMINATED!NO DAMAGE TO THE TAIL FEATHERS OR TAILCONE, AND THE “P” CAME STANDARD WITH THE BEEF-UP FOR THE STABILIZERS.   INSIDE, THE DASH IS CLEAN AND STRAIGHTFORWARD, AS YOU WOULD LIKE. THE LONG EYEBROW OVER THE DASH FOUND IN AIRPLANES LIKE THIS WITH THE SPEED SLOPE WINDSHIELD, IS IN GOOD CONDITIONTRAYS ARE INSTALLED AND WIRED FOR DUAL KING DIGITAL NAV-COMMS, KING DIGITAL DME, NARCO TRANSPONDER, BUT THE RADIO PANEL UNITS AND GLIDESLOPE INDICATORS ARE NOT INCLUDED.STILL INSTALLED, WIRED AND INCLUDED IS THE NARCO PUSHBUTTON AUDIO PANEL AND THE KING MARKER BEACON RECEIVER.ALL FLIGHT INSTRUMENTS AND ENGINE INSTRUMENTS ARE INSTALLED AND INCLUDED EXCEPT THE ELECTRIC TURN CO-ORDINATOR.THE GREY INTERIOR WAS REDONE IN 2000, AND LOOKS VERY GOOD!THE 4 INDIVIDUAL BUCKET SEATS HAVE UPDATED PADDING WITH A MORE STYLED LOOK AND MODERN BOLSTERS, AND THE GREY CLOTH INSERTS ARE ENOUGH CONTRAST TO GIVE A DESIREABLE ‘TWO-TONE’ APPEARANCE. THE MATCHING SIDE PANELS HAVE THE SAME GOOD APPEARANCE.ALL 4 SEATS HAVE ADJUSTABLE HEADRESTS AND THE FRONT SEATS HAVE SHOULDER HARNESSES.THE EXERIOR PAINT LOOKS QUITE GOOD, WITH RED AND BLACK STRIPES AND ALTHOUGH IT IS AN OLDER SCHEME, THE COLORS KEEP IT FROM BEING TOO DATED.THE IO-470 ENGINE HAS BEEN UPDATED WITH AN INTERAV ALTERNATOR CONVERSION, AIR-OIL SEPERATOR AND OIL FILTER CONVERSION.AS YOU CAN SEE IN THE PHOTOS, BOTH PROPELLOR BLADE TIPS ARE BENT BACK, WHICH WILL REQUIRE A PROP REPLACEMENT (OR BLADES) AND AN INSPECTION OF THE ENGINE.ALTHOUGH THE COMPRESSIONS ARE GOOD ON ALL CYLINDERS AND THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING FINE, I MIGHT NOT SUGGEST AN ENGINE WITH THIS MUCH TIME SMOH AS DESERVING OF A COMPLETE TEARDOWN.PERHAPS THE BETTER ANSWER WOULD BE TO TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO UPGRADE THE ENGINE, EITHER WITH A MAJOR OVERHAUL OF THIS IO-470N, THE REPLACEMENT OF THIS ENGINE WITH A USED ENGINNE THAT SOME “N” OR “P” OWNER HAS REMOVED FOR IO-520 OR EVEN IO-550 UPGRADES.OR OF COURSE YOU COULD BE “THAT GUY”, THE ONE WHO INSTALLS THE BIGGER ENGINE IN HIS LIGHTWEIGHT “P” AND MAKES IT INTO A HOT-ROD.AS THIS AIRPLANE IS FOR SALE SO CHEAP, YOU WILL HAVE LOTS OF MONEY LEFT TO CUSTOMIZE TO YOUR HEART’S DESIRE.IN FACT, THAT’S A GREAT NAME FOR A FIXED UP HOT-ROD OF A BONANZA, HEART’S DESIRE!LOCATED AT THE MINDON NEVADA AIRPORT, 1 HOUR SOUTH OF RENO.  WE WILL PAY THE TIE-DOWN FEE FOR 30 DAYS FROM THE END OF THE AUCTION.SOLD WITH ENGINE, PROP AND AIRFRAME LOGS FROM 1997 AND ON, PLUS LOTS OF SUPPORTING PAPERWORK, INCLUDING 337’S, WEIGHT AND BALANCE, AD COMPLIANCE SHEETS, INSPECTION SHEETS AND RECEIPTS.AND THE FAA BILL OF SALE.AND THE FAA AIRWORTHINESS CERTIFICATEAND THE KEYS!!LOTS OF P-35 POTENTIAL HERE, AT A LOW COST!!GOOD BIDDING!!
