1949 PA-16, SUPER CLIPPER, 4 PLACE, STICKS, 2, 405 TT, NICE AIRPLANE, GREAT PROJECT, CHEAP!!THE PA-16 CLIPPER WAS PRODUCED FOR ONLY A SINGLE YEAR!A 4 PLACE STRETCHED VERSION OF THE PA-15 VAGABOND.THE CLIPPER IS A MISSING LINK AIRPLANE, WHICH MAKES IT UNIQUE, BUT ALSO PRACTICAL!!THE PA-16 RETAINS THE STICK CONTROLS OF THE CUB AND SUPER CUB, WITH THE SLIDING OPENABLE LEFT WINDOW, BUT IT ADDS MODERN FEATURES OF DUAL WING MOUNTED FUEL TANKS, AND TO HELP PASSENGERS ACCESS THE FULL BENCH... REAR SEAT, IT ADDS A REAR DOOR ON THE PILOT’S SIDE JUST FOR THEM!!AS DID THE VAGABOND, THE PA-16 CAME FROM THE FACTORY WITH THE LYCOMING 0-235 ENGINE, WHICH IS NOT REALLY ENOUGH POWER TO HAUL 4 PEOPLE AND FUEL, EVEN THOUGH THE PA-16 IS QUITE LIGHT. (MOST PA-16 OWNERS SAY IT IS A 2 ½ TO 3 PLACE, HAHA)SINCE 1949, MANY PEOPLE HAVE FIGURED OUT THAT THE 0-290/0-320 ENGINES AS USED ON THE LATER PACER AND TRI-PACER FIT NICELY ON THE CLIPPER  AND GIVE THIS LIGHTWEIGHT REALLY GOOD PERFORMANCE.THE NICKNAME FOR A PA-16 WITH THIS CONVERSION IS “SUPER CLIPPER”.ORIGINALLY AN 0-290 WAS INSTALLED (IN 1966) AND IN 1967 THE OWNER MADE AN ENTRY IN THE LOGBOOK THAT THEY FLEW TO 17, 200 FEET!!IN 2012, THE OWNER OF THIS PLANE WENT ONE STEP FURTHER AND INSTALLED A 150 H.P. 0-320, WITH THE REQUIRED S.T.C. PAPERWORK TO MAKE IT APPROVED !!NOW THAT’S A SUPER CLIPPER!ADDITIONAL MODS TO MAKE IT EVEN MORE SUPER INCLUDE:DOUBLE PUCK CLEVELAND HEAVY DUTY WHEELS AND BRAKES!VORTEX GENERATORsCOMPLETE MODERN DASH WITH CENTER STACK FOR RADIOS, ALL ELECTRIC GYROS, NEW CIRCUIT BREAKERS AND SWITCHESBEAUTIFUL GREY WITH RED CLOTH INTERIORFRONT SEAT SHOULDER HARNESSES WITH PAPERWORKUNFORTUNATELY, TAILWHEEL AIRCRAFT REQUIRE CONSTANT UPKEEP IN PILOT SKILLS, AND THIS PILOT HAD A LITTLE TROUBLE WITH THE CROSSWIND ON THIS PARTICULAR DAY, WHEN THE AIRPLANE GOT A LITTLE SQUIRRLY ON THE GROUND, HE INITIATED A GO AROUND, A LITTLE TOO LATE.THE AIRPLANE DEPARTED THE SIDE OF THE RUNWAY INTO A SNOWBANK, WHERE THE LEFT GEAR LEG FOLDED UP.DAMAGE RESULTED!THE DAMAGE IS MAYBE NOT AS BAD AS FIRST LOOKS WOULD IMPLY!THE LEFT GEAR LEG FOLDED, BUT IT APPEARS THAT THE DAMAGE IS TO THE LEG ITSELF, NOT TO THE ATTACH POINTS ON THE FUSELAGE!THE GEAR DID NOT COME UP FAR ENOUGH TO DAMAGE THE FUSELAGE SIDE!THE RIGHT GEAR IS NOT DAMAGED, AND AS A RESULT THE BELLY HAS VERY LITTLE DAMAGE!THE COWLING AND NOSEBOWL ARE DAMAGED, BUT THE FIREWALL APPEARS TO HAVE NO DAMAGE AT ALL.BOTH WINGS ARE DAMAGED OUTBOARD OF THE LIFT STRUTS, AND 1 LIFT STRUT IS BENT.THE FUEL TANKS ON BOTH SIDES APPEAR UNDAMAGED, AS DO THE SPAR ATTACH POINTS.BOTH AILERONS ALSO LOOK GOOD !!THERE IS DAMAGE TO THE SMALL CHANNELS THAT GIVE THE ROOF IT’S SHAPE, BUT THE MAIN OVERHEAD CROSS TUBING DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE DAMAGED.IN FACT, I DON’T BELIEVE THE FUSELAGE HAS ANY DAMAGED TUBING !!THE TAILCONE AND ALL TAIL FEATHERS APPEAR TO BE UNDAMAGED.  THE AIRPLANE DID NOT FLIP OVER ONTO IT’S TAIL!SCOTT 3200 TAILWHEEL IS INSTALLED AND UNDAMAGED!ALL OF THE FLIGHT INSTRUMENTS, INCLUDING THE MODERN ELECTRIC D.G. WITH HEADING BUG, THE MODERN ELECTRIC TURN CO-ORDINATOR, WIND UP CLOCK, ETC. ARE INTACT.REMOVED ARE THE RADIO AND TRANSPONDER THEMSELVES FROM THE CENTER STACK.ALSO REMOVED AND NOT INCLUDED IS THE 0-30 ENGINE AND ALL ACCESSORIES.  BUT THEY WERE UNBOLTED PROPERLY, NOT CUT OUT, SO THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS (INCLUDING BOGART COPPER CABLES) ARE INTACT, AS ARE ENGINE CONTROL CABLES, GASCOLATOR, ENGINE MOUNT, ETC.  AND THE S.T.C THAT IS INCLUDED AND INSTALLED ON THIS AIRFRAME IS NOT FOR A SPECIFIV SERIAL NUMBER, AND INFACT ALLOWS FOR A VARIETY OF 0-320 ENGINES TO BE INSTALLED !!SO THIS IS A PROJECT, BUT MOST OF THE UPGRADING THAT CAN BE SO TEDIOUS HAS ALREADY BEEN DONE, THE PAPERWORK IS IN GOOD ORDER( FAA AIRWORTHINESS CERTIFICATE AND FAA BILL OF SALE ARE INCLUDED, AS WELL AS LOGBOOKS SINCE 1960 TO THE PRESENT, 337’S, STC PAPERWORK, WEIGHT AND BALANCE, POH AND THE ORIGINAL CHECKLIST, NOW FULLY LAMINATED IN HARD PLASTIC!)EVEN THE KEYS!!THIS AIRPLANE IS LOCATED JUST NORTHEAST OF DENVER COLORADO, IN A SECURE STORAGE LOCKER.WE WILL PAY THE RENT FOR UP TO 30 DAYS FROM THE END OF THE AUCTION, AND YOU CAN ARRANGE FOR MORE TIME IF YOU NEED IT.THIS AIRPLANE WAS DONE UP NICER THAN ANY OTHER PA-16 I HAVE SEEN, SO AFTER REPAIR YOU WILL HAVE AN AIRPLANE YOU ARE PROUD OF!!
