1838 Signed Grand Tour Pencil Drawing: Kamares Aqueduct Mytilene Lesbos
Item History & Price
"AQUEDUCT AT MYTILENE"
Original Grand Tour Pencil Drawingdated 1838signed: Hawthorn [?]
The highly detailed drawing itself measures 3 1/8" x 5 1/8" and was mounted on another sheet of tan paper with double lined border measuring 4 1/2" x 6 1/2."
It is my understanding that this drawing was executed by a 19th Century English Grand Tour traveler and depicts the aqueduct known as the Kamares Aqueduct, near Mytilene [Mytilini] on the Greek Island of Lesbos [Lesvos]....
The work is in good condition, as illustrated.
This is absolutely guaranteed to be an original 19th Century work and is NOT any type of later reproduction.
This was included in an artist's sketchbook that I purchased about thirty years ago, probably at Brimfield.
My family has been in the antiques and design business since 1955!
