A while ago, in Aix-en-Provence, I found a small set of late 18th century French genre drawings, depicting figures in a natural positions. All three drawings are clearly by the same artist.On two of the drawings, there is an inscription (one in full, one as a monogram), refering to Jean Jacques de Boissieu (1736 - 1810). These inscriptions were later added. But, de Boissieu can't be considered being the author of these drawings.
The present drawing, executed in... pen and ink on laid paper, depicts a portrait of a servant girl.This drawing, possibly, was a preparatory study for a genre painting.
Authorship : the drawing is from the French School. The artist was clearly influenced by Jean-Baptiste Greuze (1725 - 1805).
Period : ca. 1780-1790.
Size : 18, 3x14, 7cm.
Condition : Good. Some scattered dirt throughout. Some tiny spots. Laid down on a paper support. Matted. Unframed.
