This auction is for a rare original 18th century artist signed and dated miniature oil painting on copper of a peasant girl. This rarity was purchased from a prominent Washington D.C auction house many years ago. I am now in the process of downsizing and look to pass these lovely finds on to the eBay community. This is an 18th century "Continental-European" portrait by artist Carl Bauer in 1742 or 1792. It is a fantastic rendering of a young peasant girl. Bauer really captures the... innocence of this young lady on such a small space. This was always unframed as long as I have ever owned it. I used a miniature plate stand to display it. It measures a "dainty" 2" x 2 1/2". It is signed Carl Bauer, either 1742 or 1792. It is a truly one of a kind miniature. I have spent years trying to find out what I could on Carl Bauer, but have come up empty. He deserves to be a listed artist. Just an incredible piece of European history! A must have for the serious miniature art collector.
